Am I Woman? Or a Girl?

By Piyushi Dhir

Am I a Woman or a Girl

[Penned down in the 7th week of my pregnancy]

I am a wife

I manage my house, my career

I give my husband advice

I am independent, financially secure

I am a woman…

But I still love

To clutch a teddy bear when I sleep

Give me colouring books

And I will sigh in pleasure

So, am I girl?

My body is a miracle

It is creating life within

I have a baby inside of me

I’m going to be a Mother

I am a woman…

When my husband says “Baby”,

I’m his woman

But till date when

My Daddy calls me “Baby”

I am his little girl

When my husband teases me

With his hands,

I dissolve into laughter

Just the way I giggled

When Daddy tickled his li’l girl

So who am I?

A Woman? Or a Girl?

Or am I standing on the edge

Soon to be tipped over into a woman

When my baby arrives…

But whoever I may be

I will hope and try

That no matter how old I grow

I keep alive that girl

That I am, that I always will be…
