August and September have flown by and I barely have any posts to show on my blog.
So what has kept me distracted all this while? What has allowed me to neglect my work, my writing?
Well, I may be a writer, but starting August 2016, I have donned a whole new identity- that of a Mother! Yes, after having created and crafted two novels from scratch, I have a new feather to add to my hat. I recently became the proud mother of a charming little baby boy. Okay, I confess he is not always charming, especially when the bawling and pooping begin, but then at the end of the day, I look at him and go all mushy. There’s nothing to compare with the feeling of having made a baby inside you and having brought him onto this Earth.
So anyway, all the mush put aside, my life has turned quite topsy-turvy. Tranquil mornings that were spent with a cup of tea in hand, while I looked on upon the ocean in front of my house are now replaced with harried dawns that find me frantically reaching for a fiendishly hungry baby. My own tastes and preferences with respect to food may politely go to hell because I now have to eat keeping in mind my baby’s needs. Hours spent cuddled in bed with a good book, time invested in writing blog posts and assignments, evening walks and romantic weekends with my husband have all gone out of the window.
Picture me in pyjamas that have been peed and puked on, my hair askew, tossing the baby across my shoulder to calm him… and yes, that’s what a typical day looks like. My nails haven’t been painted in two months, I have forgotten to match my earrings to my clothes. For that matter, I barely find the time to comb my hair and sometimes, I just forget to brush my teeth. Night feeds merge into morning ones and my day barely begins or ends. It just stretches from one feed to another, from one diaper change to another.
Phew! Don’t I sound like a frustrated Mom? Well, all this history is only to give you a rough sketch of where I’ve been the last few weeks and also to build on what’s to come over the next few weeks. Because whenever I do find the time to write, I suspect I’m going to have a lot to say about my new universe of Motherhood.
There will be some posts coming from the time of my pregnancy, followed by write-ups on life as a Mommy. And maybe, when my mind finally starts seeing beyond diapers, baby pyjamas and colic aid, I will also write about other things. Whatever it is, I promise to keep it interesting, so do stay tuned.
Okay, baby’s waking… time to go!
